Personal GeoDatabase Feature Class
Northwest Ecological Services, LLC (NES) was contracted in June 2003 to develop a comprehensive GIS database that identifies wetland locations and other environmentally sensitive features within specified areas being considered for future urban development. The geographic scope of the project included land in and adjacent to Bellingham's Urban Growth Areas as specified by City planning staff.
The objective of the project was to provide reconnaissance level data, in a form supported by GIS, of wetlands, wetland complexes, streams and drainages that could be used for planning purposes. To accomplish this task, NES reviewed existing information provided by the City as well as other available material. Reconnaissance-level field investigation was performed on all properties, except when access was refused by the property owner. Wetlands and other significant features were observed and noted on aerial base maps and data was collected on wetland class, hydrology, vegetation, drainage and wildlife associations. The wetland boundaries indicated on the maps are approximate and intended only to provide an indication of the presence of wetlands.
